The regret doesn't hit me until my Uber is dropping me off in front of my apartment building late the next night.

I somehow managed to convince myself during the early morning flight that sneaking out of Damien's hotel room in the middle of the night was the right thing to do—the smart thing to do. I ignored the feeling of contentment that came from being wrapped in his arms, and fought even harder to ignore the temptation of staying there for a little bit longer.

The one thing that the cheating idiot Barry is good for is distracting me with his divorce case, because he was the only thing I could focus on during our meeting the entire next day. But by the time I walked into my apartment twenty-eight hours later, the regret had already fully seeped in.

It should be enough to tell myself that there is a long list of reasons detailing why any contact between Damien and I is a bad idea, and that the chances of us even meeting again are slim. But for some reason, that's not helping to assuage the guilt.

I try to convince myself it's only because of the mind-numbing orgasms that he pulled from me, but that doesn't work either. Because I'm not upset that I won't ever be in his bed again, I'm upset because I didn't get to wake up in his bed.

This is ridiculous, I think as I attempt to distract myself with unpacking my bags. He's just a guy, pull yourself together. You'll be over him by the time the memory of his grip on your skin fades.

But at that thought, I pause and drop the blazer in my hand. Slowly, almost nervously, I pull my blouse up to peek at my hips. To see if the phantom grip I still feel is real or if I'm so caught up in reliving our night together that I'm imagining things.

I'm not. I can already see the tiny pinprick bruises his fingers left on my skin.

Can suddenly remember what it felt like when he was imprinting them, squeezing my hips harder and harder with every thrust. When he was too hungry for me to slow down, too obsessed with the feel of me to stem the flow of praise falling from his lips. I can still hear the wonder in his tone, can still—

I drop my blouse with a heavy exhale.
